Meadville Area Middle School classes pay it forward to library
Carolyn Brown’s reading classes at Meadville Area Middle School recently presented a check for $286 to Meadville Public Library Executive Director Dan Slozat.
The funds were raised at a family movie night event featuring a showing of the 1996 film “Matilda” that was held May 20 in the Meadville Area Senior High School auditorium.
Brown previously had received a $500 grant from the Crawford Central Community Foundation in March for her new reading classroom. The grant came with a “pay it forward” component, which led to the fundraiser to benefit the library.
Brown was assisted in selling concessions and raffle tickets during the movie night by paraprofessional Patti Gisewhite and students Xavier Powell, Isabella Reynolds, Sophia Moore, Jordan Groce, Brayden Bush and Liam Grajek. Mary Lynne Peters was also present, representing the foundation, and several local sponsors helped make the event a success.
